10 Best Things About Summer
Victoria Day marks the beginning of summer, and we are so ready to participate in several months of glorious weather. We’ve ditched our warmer clothing for tank tops and flip-flops, but there are so many other reasons to love summer. Here are a few great things about this beautiful season.
The Days Are Longer
Who doesn’t love being woken up by a symphony of melodic birds at 4:30 am? It makes you want to get up and plan your day. With all the extra daylight hours you can get more accomplished much earlier so you can spend lots of time basking in the sun and doing other fun summer activities.
Bounty of Fruits and Vegetables
The supermarkets and farmers’ markets are bulging with a variety of fresh sweet and juicy summer fruits and vegetables. Cherries, peaches, berries, watermelon, corn, peas, green beans, and many more fresh fruits and veggies are here to satisfy our taste buds and enhance our meals.
Picnics
Getting a chance to picnic in your favorite or secret getaway spot with the family is refreshing, rejuvenating and relaxing. No phones, no traffic, no people, no noise, no worries!
No School, No Homework
Finally a break from the shackles of homework. Kids have a few months of freedom to sleep in, hang out with their friends, and just have fun.
Vacations and Travel
Summer is the best time to hit the road and explore new locations whether it be hiking a mountain trail in Switzerland or canoeing in Banff.
Camping
Camping is a great way to get out of the house and reconnect with Mother Nature. It’s fun to pitch a tent, play games, go swimming, read, go for longs walks and roast marshmallows.
Beaches and Lakes
Jumping into and submerging yourself in a warm body of water is beyond therapeutic. It feels great to float with the waves and soak in the ocean experience. Go snorkeling, parasailing, windsurfing, or just hang around the beach and make sandcastles.
Popsicles, Ice Cream and Floats
There is something about eating ice cream, popsicles and floats during the hot steamy summer months. It’s refreshing and immensely satisfying.
Parades, Festivals and Fairs
Each city or county will host their own fair or carnival that includes rides, decadent food, music, entertainment and midway games where you can win some fabulous prizes. Some of these fairs may or may not include a parade, but if they offer this attraction, you must attend.
Flowers, Fountains & Features
Whether you’re walking in public parks or admiring a private yard, it’s enjoyable to ogle the beautiful gardens they’ve created. I love the plethora of colorful and scented flowers along with fountains, statues, walkways, bridges, and so many other creative features.
