100 Crochet Tiles Craft Book

A lot of artists get their inspiration from nature, music, films, books, family, architecture, world events, their muse, or a plethora of stimulating ideas. The same could be said for any creator, be it a landscaper, tailor, engineer, web designer, animator, graphic artist or crochet designer. As a crochet addict and enthusiast, I’m always in awe of the beautiful patterns skillful inventors and designers create. One of my favorite things to crochet is afghans and I’m always looking for unique patterns. I’m a big fan of motifs and granny squares, so when I saw the book 100 Crochet Tiles, Charts and patterns for crochet motifs inspired by decorative tiles from David and Charles, I had to have it.

If you’ve traveled a lot, you probably noticed an array of beautiful ceramic tiles specific to a country or region. Turkish tiles are some of the most ornate on the planet and their patterns have been added to rugs, dishware, clothing, tapestry, stationery, and now crochet motifs. In this craft book, you’ll find a wide range of decorative motifs that were expertly fashioned after ceramic tiles from around the world by 15 of the most talented crochet designers.

The onset of the book chats about how to use it effectively and shows the abbreviations, chart symbols, and terminology in US and UK terms. Then it dives right into the first design. Aside from easy-to-follow step-by-step written instructions, each motif features a full-color photo and a stitch chart — which shows the color of each stitch or a color chart showing the color changes for tiles made in the mosaic, tapestry, or intarsia techniques. Great for those who prefer to follow a chart. I find them a lot faster to follow than reading a pattern. The back of the book offers Crochet Techniques written instructions and illustrative how-tos.
