150 Best Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
I can remember as a young child coming in from playing out in the cold winter, to one of my mom’s delicious warm lunches. My ultimate favorite was tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. It just could get any better. I also raised my family with hot soups and grilled cheese on days when you just want to be all warm and cozy.
Fast forward to the 21st century and things do get better. One of the newest cookbooks I have is called 150 Best Grilled Cheese Sandwiches. If you like grilled cheese sandwiches you will love the creativity that went into these recipes. Author Alison Lewis has rocked the grilled cheese world with her fabulous combinations and meal ideas.
She starts you off with the basics on different breads, buns, bagels, tortillas, muffins and so on that you can use to create a grilled cheese masterpiece. I never thought about using different breads, including raisin bread, so I was curious and intrigued what ingredients she used for each. She also discusses different easy melting cheeses. My family loves all kinds of cheese even vegan cheese which is what I personally use.
This book has every kind of grilled cheese you can imagine for any meal including desserts. I also never thought about having a grilled cheese for breakfast but the Muenster Stuffed Raisin Bread which calls for liquid honey and muenster cheese is an awesome breakfast combination. The Chocolate Hazelnut Stuffed French Toast was a huge hit this holiday season. Interesting this recipe calls for cream cheese, hazelnut spread and maple syrup and family could not get enough.
I love the appetizer recipes and used the Grilled Four Cheese Minis for one of our holiday get together’s. The recipe calls for sourdough bread, four kinds of cheese, and blackberry preserves/jam. You cut the sandwich into bites pieces and they will soon become history. Our guests really enjoyed the flavors and the uniqueness of this appetizer. It’s another favorite of ours!
Other categories of grilled cheese include:
** Light and Healthy
** Meatless
** Beef
** Chicken and Turkey
** Pork
** Fish and Seafood
** Condiments
** Desserts
I love the idea of adding veggies to any meal. I added vegan cheese, kale, cucumber and tomatoes with some honey mustard on some pumpernickel bread and it was divine. We had lots of fun trying out the various recipes and even coming up with a few of our own. The kids created one with ham coated with a small amount of maple syrup, cherries and mozzarella cheese and we called it the Bavarian Grilled Cheese sandwich.
So don’t be afraid to add those mushrooms, onions, carrots and broccoli to your grilled cheese. This cookbook will help you expand your imagination and create some new favorites for your family.
