Being raised in a yarn store, I’ve developed a deep passion for knitting and crocheting. It just gives me the warm fuzzies all over. Throughout the years, I’ve made literally hundreds and hundreds of items for family and friends. I enjoy creating new projects and garments, but I’m really fond of making baby items. Baby and children’s items are so adorable and fairly quick to make; they’re also becoming trendy like adult fashion knits. The rompers and jumpers of yesteryear were boring, frumpy, and lacked any kind of personality. Today, baby clothing is getting amped up with modern styles and a new beat that meet the 21st-century vibe. My newest knitting book, 60 Quick Knit Baby Essentials captures this modern essence with patterns for today’s babies and toddlers.
60 Quick Knit Baby Essentials showcases the cutest collection of sweaters, toys, blankets and more. I love perusing through this book, it’s filled with vibrant and fun images of some of the finished garments. All the details are provided and the explanations are clear and very easy to follow. Each pattern is rated for either a beginner, intermediate or an experienced knitter. I also appreciate the graphs and exact dimensions for the finished project; there’s nothing worse than guessing long or wide a garment should be.
There are several cute sweaters to make, and I kinda like making cables, so the Colorblock Cabled Pullover appealed to me. I have a niece who has a six-month-old little guy, who would look adorable in this sweater. I made the garment for a year old, so he can wear it this winter. I couldn’t find the yarn the pattern called for, but the gauge was close to most worsted weight yarns, I just adjusted my needle size.
I was so impressed with the creativity. The patterns are edgier, yet tender enough for our little ones. The front cover features the Funky Fair Isle Hat; you can really get creative with colors. Page 60 features Textured Leg Warmers with what I call the bird’s eye cable; they are seriously adorable. One of the most striking patterns is found on page 74, the Mini Mackintosh. The garments are chic, but I think it’s the vivid and cheerful colors they chose that make is so irresistible. Another pattern I plan on making is the Giraffe Stroller Blanket, it’s an ideal neutral baby gift.
This book features plain garter, lace, fair isle, cables, and creative color combination patterns that will get you excited and your nimble fingers raring to knit. Moms, grandmothers, and crafters alike are going to love this book.
From the same series is a book devoted just to baby blankets, 60 Quick Baby Blankets. It features the sweetest and cuddliest blankies to knit!
I’m in love with this book, and I want to make every blanket. They offer a wide variety of prints, stripes, lace, intarsia, plaids, and adorable animal patterns. When I first got the book, I really wanted to make the Mustachioed blanket first, until I saw the Sunny Bunnies.
I’m smitten by this cute pattern! It’s a garter stitch pattern with cabled bunnies punctuating the blanket. It also has a seed stitch border that makes this pattern picture perfect.
I couldn’t resist, I had to make two of these precious Sunny Bunny blankets. They’re fun and easy to make and everyone adores them. I’ve already started on a new blanket and look forward to making more.
Both of these knitting books offer so many delightful and lovable options for both girls and boys. I’m thrilled to have them in my craft collection.
