I love to knit and crochet but during the summer months I slow down a little. Now that autumn approaching, I’ve got all my craft gear out, and I’m in the mood to create some winter projects. Most of the things I make are for my family and friends as Christmas presents, so I want something fresh, new and trendy to make. I recently found an online pattern from Red Heart that caught my eye, the Upscale Slouchy Hat.
The Upscale Slouchy Hat is crocheted and easy to make. You can use a variety of yarns to get the color and texture you’re looking for. The pattern calls for Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable Waves yarn, but I also used the Boutique Unforgettable which is slightly thinner and has less texture. The variegated color selection is what I like; the hues flow nicely from one to the next. Just a note: the pattern calls for one ball of Unforgettable Waves, but I ran out of yarn. I had the correct tension but I was still short about 2 1/2 rows.
You can also create the slouch as short or as long as you like. I find the adults like the shorter version whereas kids love the extended version. There’s no right or wrong when making this hat, just go with your preference.
I’ve made about ten of these hats already and I’m still going strong. They take me about 1 1/2 – 2 hours to make depending on the length. They’re super fun to make and your family will love them. Click on the image below for the pattern.
I may have to take up crochet. I love this pattern and I think I would become obsessed trying out all the great colour combos!
Crocheting is easy to learn and so addictive. I have to make something every day.

I think these are so cute! My 3 granddaughters would love them!
I make them all sizes. Just reduce the amount of stitches around the headband to make smaller hats.

I love the slouchy style of hat and this looks like a great pattern. Good for you for making so many. I should get it together to try to make even just one. 😉
OH, so cute! I don’t knit myself, but my daughter=in=law does. She has a daughter that would love to have one of these darling hats.
I love to crochet and make lots of stuff, hats, scarves, blankets etc. But I have never followed a pattern, ever. I am going to check this out as this hat is something we would love
Awesome Kim, I think you’ll like this pattern. Although I agree, you don’t necessarily need a pattern to create a Slouchy Hat, but if offers a guideline for those who may need it.
I love this style of hat, now if only I could sew/knit/even know which wording is proper here! 😉
I LOOOOOVE slouchy hats. We all wear them. I never thought of crocheting my own – but you make it look so easy and fun. Now I’m thinking I want to try this…Off to bookmark this post 🙂

What a cute design. I wish I could knit. I tried to learn but with little success. I especially like the variegated colored yarn they used. It adds more interest to the items.
