Signs of Candida Overgrowth

Candida is a fungus, a form of yeast that lives in minute amounts in our intestines and mouth. Its main function is to aid in digestion and absorbing the nutrients from the foods we eat. It’s estimated that about 70% of all people are afflicted with Canadia overgrowth. Recently, Candida Auris – a candida species superbug, has surfaced as a health threat in several countries, including the US. When candida overproduces, we will start feeling unwell and have a host of negative symptoms. If our pH balance is off and if the candida is not kept in control, it can break through the intestinal wall lining and into the bloodstream. This is not good because it releases byproduct toxins plus other noxious toxins from our bodies which cause leaky gut syndrome.


So, what causes an overgrowth of candida in our body? There are several factors that can contribute to this situation significantly.

Foods are a big factor, breads, baked goods, milk, high sugar foods and drinks, alcohol, processed foods, glutinous grains, high fructose fruits, moldy nuts and seeds, condiments and many others feed candida.

There are several diets and cleanses on the web that you can look over and judge which is best for you. There are also certain foods and supplements you can incorporate into your diet that will speed up the process. Steamed cruciferous veggies, fermented vegetables, coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, garlic, ginger, cloves, cinnamon, wild salmon and lemon juice are good for fighting candida. Taking a high quality probiotic is also important because it reinforces your body’s defense system. Other helpful supplements include milk thistle, vitamin C, clove oil, oregano oil, myrrh oil, lavender oil, chlorella, and olive leaf extract.

  • This is a great article, as I have never heard of candida and learned a lot. My concern is that it affects 70% of people. My husband is on anti-biotics for an extended period of time, and does have acid reflux. I will look into finding more foods that help prevent this.

  • Oh my gosh. I thought it only caused Yeast infection. This is scary. I have stomach problems for years. My Dr. could not find the problem so he wanted to put me on antidepressants. YA that would help. This is worth looking into . I have many more symptoms. I even had cancer due to hormones also never had to use birth control and only had 3 children in 38yrs of marriage.

  • wow I had no idea birth control pills would factor into this. I am pregnant now but was actually thinking of going on birth control sometime after i have baby girl instead of getting my tubes tied…hmmm

  • It really does not surprise me that garlic and ginger are one of the best remedies; there are so many health benefits to those two foods. I keep hearing a lot about them.

  • Candida sucks. I just had an infection in my windpipe that left me in the hospital for an overnight stay. Signs where high BP, heart rate, swelling all over but mostly in my feet and intense pain. I take steroids for Lupus and I got an intense rash so I had to start my meds back up. The course to treat the candida infection was 14days of diflucan. I was scolded by the ER doctor for not knowing what was happening even though I routinely take steroids and will for the rest of my life. I will also now have to watch out for the thrust windpipe infection too, no matter how many cleanses I can do. Just please know the warning signs.
