The foods we eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison. Ann Wigmore
With society dealing with so many diseases and health conditions, it’s clear we are not living the dream of a healthy and vibrant life. This is only achievable if we take control of our own health and change our lifestyles which includes the foods we eat, the actions we take and the thoughts we think. Most of us need a little guidance and it all starts with the foods we feed our bodies. I have two new recipe books that offer an abundance of healthy recipes and guidance on ways to well-being.
The Yoga Plate
The Yoga Plate recipe book introduces readers (be they avid yogis or not) to the philosophy of yoga and how it reflects the food choices we make. With stunning photography and 108 vibrant vegan recipes, you’ll be inspired to embrace the internal practice of yoga.
This recipe book is divided into two main sections, The Yoga Kitchen and The Recipes. Each section has several chapters that hone in on specific areas and recipes. The Yoga Kitchen features Off the Mat, Into the Kitchen | Ahimsa | Life as a Moving Meditation and The Yoga Pantry.
The Recipes section provides readers with a conscious approach to creating healthy meals with vibrant ingredients. There are four chapters of recipes, each honing on specific meals and beautiful photos. Morning Meditations share recipes for Smoothies and Teas and Breakfast. Plate Full of Prana offers recipes for Snacks, Sides, Soups, and Salads. Bowl Full of Yin covers Entrees, Dips, and Sauces and Sweet Savasana is all about decadent desserts.
Although I’m not an avid yoga practitioner, I love this recipe book. It’s filled with foods I adore and the recipes are delicious. There may be a few ingredients that you might not have in your pantry. For example vanilla bean powder, it’s probably in your local health food store but beware, it’s expensive. When you invest in your health and begin creating meals that have a profound effect on your health, you’ll experience that tranquil zen that attracts all that is good in your life. The Yoga Plate is a must-have recipe book for those seeking vibrant health. Secret code: ginger.
The Vibrant Life
If you are unwell or have nagging aches and pains, The Vibrant Life delves deep into the world of wellness with lots of resources. These include healthy recipes, meditation, massage, acupuncture and yoga. This book is divided into 5 chapters, Ch 1: My Best Breakfasts, Hot Drinks and Juices, Ch 2: Vegetables, Fruits and Other Delicious Plants, Ch 3: Land and Sea, Ch 4: Sweets, Treats and Cocktails and Ch 5: Twelve Staple Recipes That Get Me Through the Week.
The premise of this book is based on an anti-inflammatory diet. Chronic inflammation can encourage a long list of inflammatory diseases. The onset of this book shares what foods and tools you’ll need to create the included recipes. Each chapter shares a variety of recipes and some of the chapters offer a section called On Mind Body Spirit. These special sections focus on areas outside the realm of diet. These include yoga, fitness, humor, massage, aromatherapy, strength training, meditation, skincare, sleep and so much more.
The recipes are easy to make and a vibrant photo is shown so you can see the end result. Also provided are preparation time, cooking time and number of servings. It’s important to note that this is not a vegan book. The vast majority include some form of animal ingredients. That being said, they all have a mindful purpose in assisting your body in healing be it boosting your immunity, strengthening your memory, lifting your moods, or supporting your digestive health. Plus, you won’t feel deprived. Some of the recipes you can enjoy making are Buckwheat Crepes, Zucchini Spaghetti, Chicken Pho and Summer Berry Pot Pies.
