Best Holiday Movies

The holiday season is here, the weather is frightfully frosty, and the house smells like the fragrant scents of Christmas! How we love the yuletide season. There is nothing more wonderful than cuddling up in a cozy blanket by a flicking fireplace, hot chocolate in tow, bingeing on our favorite Christmas movies. Whether you love the nostalgic classics like A Christmas Carol, or a kid flick like Home Alone, or an enchanting amination like The Polar Express, there is a holiday-inspired movie for you and your loved ones.

Some movies we adore and have seen too many times to count, while others are fresh on our watch list. We’ve compiled a list of Christmas movies that span several decades, all of which will put you in the festive spirit.

A Christmas Carol is an all-time favorite among holiday movies. It’s been remade and there are several versions available. We love Jim Carrey as Scrooge, but you may prefer the versions starring Alistair Sim and George C. Scott. It’s a must-watch during the holiday season.

We never tire of the classic holiday movies from the 40s and 50s like Miracle on 34th Street, White Christmas, It’s a Wonderful Life and Holiday Inn. They’re warm, enchanting and will bring back fond Christmas memories.

You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch! No Christmas movie viewing is complete without the holiday classic, How The Grinch Stole Christmas. He’s greedy, miserable and is a thief. Watch out, this Dr. Suess character just might steal your heart. It’s available in several versions, Jim Carry as the Grinch, Benedict Cumberbatch plays a great Grinch and the original endearing animation.

Kid flick holiday favorites always bring on the giggles. Home Alone features a series of 5 hilarious movies. I think everyone’s favorites are the first two with Macaulay Culkin. A Christmas Story and Elf are also ridiculously funny movie the whole family will enjoy.

Disney magic is especially wonderful during the holiday season. Festive animations like Mickey’s Christmas Carol, Once Upon a Christmas and The Nightmare Before Christmas will warm up the season for both kids and parents.

When you get a bunch of funny actors together, their movies are bound to crack a smile. If you’re into big-time humor, the perfect solution is to watch Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Christmas With The Kranks and Jingle All The Way.

Our whole family is very fond of all the delightful holiday animations. The Polar Express is an enchanting holiday tale of a young boy who doubts that Santa Claus truly exists. Enjoy the antics of two elves, Wayne and Lanny, in a holiday duo Prep & Landing and Naughty and Nice. Or savor the long-lasting favorite Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

If you’re looking for unconventional Christmas movies, there is no shortage in titles. Scrooged is an updated version about a contemptuous and selfish television executive, who on Christmas Eve, is visited by a series of ghosts intent on helping him regain his Christmas spirit. Office Christmas Party is about one last big party at a failing branch, only to land a huge client. Black Christmas is a holiday thriller sure to keep on the edge of your seat.

This holiday season, kick back and tune into some festive movies. It’s that time of year!
