500 Crochet Stitches, The Ultimate Crochet Bible

One of my greatest loves is crocheting. I get absorbed in a project and end up crocheting for hours and hours without stopping. I enjoy making handcrafted items for my family and friends; it’s fulfilling and productive. I’m always creating my own afghans and rely on my book, 500 Crochet Stitches, The Ultimate Crochet Stitch Bible, for ideas.

The book starts you off with the basics. If you’re not familiar with crocheting, you’ll learn about the different sized hooks and how to hold your hook. I personally do not hold my hook the way they suggest; you’ll have to play around with the hook and hold it in a position that’s comfortable for you. The book also has a stitch guide plus a diagram showing how to create each of them. It continues with how to increase, decrease, and combine several stitches in a pattern. There’s also a chart showing the symbols for each stitch so you can interpret and follow the graphs.

The fun part is viewing and trying out all the gorgeous stitches. I had a blast putting a few patterns together and creating several pillows.

You can quickly and easily mix and match patterns with the same stitch count to come up with your own creation. Each of the 500 patterns has a written explanation as well as an easy to follow graph. Personally, I just follow the graphs, it’s so much faster, and a lot more fun.

I have a few crochet stitch books, but this book still offered new patterns that I have not seen before. The 500 Crochet Stitches is ideal for both newbies and experienced crocheters. The combinations are limitless. It’s a great addition to my craft book collection.
