There are many baby food brands on the market that are loaded with sugar, salt, GMO produce, food coloring, preservatives, and who knows what else. This enrages me and makes me question who would buy these products if they take the time to read the labels. These jars are cheaper for a reason!
My family is big on organic foods where possible and that absolutely includes baby food. The issue is that organic baby food is very costly, with jars ranging anywhere from 90 cents to $1.29 where I live. The jars are tiny, convenient, and a perfect portion size, but it can definitely put a big dent in your food budget. So, going to your local farmer’s market and picking consciously grown organic produce is an optimal choice, then you know exactly what’s in your baby food.
A few of my nieces have made their own baby food but did not have the luxury of using the Baby Bullet. Another family member is going to have her first baby any day now, so we had fun test driving the Baby Bullet and making some yummy creations. Although the kit I got did not come with a steamer, you can use one that you may have at home, or you can purchase the Baby Bullet Turbo Food Steamer on Amazon for a great price. Some foods don’t need steaming like bananas or avocados.
We noticed that a lot of the store shelf baby foods were single foods, but we like to make life a little more interesting by mixing two or more ingredients, like apple and yam/squash, or banana and mango, or zucchini and pineapple. Included in the kit is a User Manual and Cookbook, which gives you oodles of combinations that are recommended for babies at various ages. The Pocket Nutritionist is a valuable little book that you can take along to the grocery store with you. It tells you which fruits and veggies are exposed to significant amounts of pesticides and recommend organic instead. There’s also an Allergy Alert page with a list of hi and low-risk foods, plus so much more info. I thought this was so handy.
The Baby Bullet is a breeze to use. For larger volumes, you can use the bigger Batchbowl, or if you’re making a smaller amount, use the cute little Short Cup. You attached the Blend Blade (4 blades) and press down in pulses. In seconds you have healthy, natural, nutrient beaming baby food that costs pennies to make. After your food is blended, you can either pour into the single serve cups and store in the fridge and turn the date dial on the lid, or use the Batch Tray and freeze the food. The next day you can remove the food from the freezer tray and put in separate plastic bags. There’s also a Mill Blade (2 blades) that is great for grains so you can make your own cereals. The cups are made from a nontoxic plastic that will not shatter or crack if dropped. I thought this was a great idea as it’s inevitable that one day you will drop it. All the pieces, except the base, are dishwasher safe.
The joyful experience of making your own baby food cannot be expressed enough, knowing you are giving your baby the best possible foods loaded with vitamins, minerals and nutrients available. It just can’t get any easier with the Baby Bullet and we highly recommend it.
