Bedtime Reads for Kids
Reading bedtime stories fosters a lot of positive results. Speaking simplistically, kids and parents develop a deeper bond and kids learn that reading can be fun. But they also learn to visualize and feel empathy, joy and a host of other emotions. Best of all, kids can power up their imaginations and enter a world of pure magic.
Some kids get attached to certain stories because of the warm fuzzy emotions they feel every time the tale is revisited. Others need new bedtime stories to quench their imagination and fill their curiosity. In our home, we enjoy introducing new storybooks and here are four new titles that your children may enjoy as well.
A Stone Sat Still
A Stone Sat Still is about just that, a large stone. But, this large stone is more than just a rock that exists in nature. This book shares the perspective of what the stone endures through all weather conditions and how it’s a useful place for various critters. It can be a place to call home, to rest, to hide, eat or observe from. It can be used as a marker, a map, a maze or an island. It has different textures, different hues, and even a unique smell. It’s all reflective on the animal’s perception and its needs. The illustrations speak volumes and children will be able to discern or explore what message is being delivered.
Patience, Miyuki
Patience, Miyuki is about a little girl who is delighted with the onset of Spring. It’s the very first day of spring and she’s enjoying the new growth in your grandfather’s garden. She greets each plant as their buds start to open up. All except one little sleep flower. She encourages the flower to wake up, but it’s not ready. Miyuki was eager to help the flower grow and wanted to water the plant, but the well was dry. Her grandfather said the best thing to do, was to be patient. Miyuki rushes around all day with her bucket looking for the purest water for her little flower. She learns an important lesson about good things come to those who wait. The illustrations are charming, colorful and captivating.
Rabbit And The Motorbike
Rabbit And The Motorbike is a touching story about two friends. Rabbit’s friend Dog used to share all his tales about his adventures on his motorbike. Rabbit loved hearing Dog’s stories, but was far too scared to venture out of her wheat field where he lived all his life. But then, Dog isn’t there to share his stories and Rabbit is feeling the loss of his dear friend. Dog left his motorbike to Rabbit and it sat there for a very long time. Then one day, Rabbit was inspired to live, to venture out, to explore, to experience and then share his own stories. This story is very sad, and the kids cried. But it teaches kids that you can’t stop living when someone you love dies. The illustrations are lovely and the story compels you to follow along.
