It’s summertime, and we have lots of fun events planned. The last thing we want to do is spend more time than we have to, cleaning our home. With a home abuzz with pets, family, gardening equipment, sports equipment, toys, and with the windows being opened a lot, it can look like it’s been neglected for weeks in just a matter of moments. Finding easy and effective ways to clean my home is important to me and thankfully there’s a new appliance that making housework less complicated and demanding.
Bissell has a new product that is going to competently cut down on your cleaning time, therefore increasing your leisure time. The new Bissell Symphony is a vacuum and steam mop in one. In fact, it’s the first of its kind on the market.

(1) Quick Start Guide
Assembling was incredibly easy, all you have to do is attach the base to the vacuum body, and you’re good to go, no tools required. You’ll giggle and be impressed with the versatility this little red number has. First, I want to mention that it eliminates 99.9 % of germs and bacteria just by using distilled water, no chemicals needed at all. This fact alone would be enough to influence my decision about using it. It has 3 easy touch digital controls, HI, LO, and VAC, just lightly press to choose your settings.
It’s quite lightweight; you can easily lift and transport it with one hand. The handle can be adjusted to a comfortable height by pressing a tab at the base of the handle; this is great for tall people like me. The handle collapses quickly for convenient storage. The reusable microfiber mop pads come with Microban antimicrobial product protection, which means it prevents odors causing bacteria from inhabiting them. It offers Dry Tank Technology which keeps your tank dry while you steam away. If you have bigger rooms to clean, you’ll appreciate the 25′ power cord.
I have carpet, tile, and laminate flooring in my home, and the Symphony took them all on.
The laminate was a breeze to vacuum and steam clean. The vacuum has great suction and can get even the tiniest speck in the corners, nooks, and crannies, thanks to the little red side bristles. It was so awesome to see that all the debris collected and still be uber dry. What could be worse than wet dirt, right?
To get ready to steam the floor, you will need to add two cups of pre-measured cold water to the water tank. You have the option of the soft or scrubby mop pad. You place the mop pad on its tray and snap it into place under the vacuum. Then you choose your steam setting, HI for durable floors or sticky messes, and LO for delicate floors and light cleaning. For this surface, I chose the soft mop and LO steam, and it worked so well. It was really fabulous to be able to vacuum an area, then steam it clean immediately. This is so clever and has saved me hours of fuss and work. My floors were left mirror clean, and I can tell you that it feels nice on bare feet.
A couple of things really surprised me. One, the amount of debris vacuumed up; it’s a powerful cyclonic action vacuum that picks up fine and large debris effortlessly. Secondly, seeing how dirty the mop pad was alarmed me, considering I just washed the floor less than a week earlier. I was equally impressed at how quickly I could go from cleaning the floor to vacuuming the area rug. Slick!
A room that needs its floors cleaned almost every day is my kitchen. If you have kids and/or pets like most families, you’ll probably have a mess that needs cleaning on a daily basis, at least I do.
I was so happy that I did not have to lug around the big cumbersome vacuum and then get out my cleaning supplies. I was able to quickly vacuum up all the loose debris and get right to mopping.
I used the scrubby mop pad because I had a few sticky areas that required some effort to scrub. To clean a messy area, you need to keep the steam in the space for 15 – 20 seconds, no longer. For the most part, the floor was super clean. There were a few spots like some of the deep grooves in the tile that got missed. If I went over these areas really slow, it worked a lot better and showed off its capabilities.
All in all, the Bissell Symphony is really an awesome cleaner. It worked well on all the surfaces, it simplified my day, expedited clean up, and stores away nicely. And, I’m all for that. I think it’s a must-have for every home and cottage.
