California Design Den Sheet Set

Growing up, my mom would buy us new pillows and a few sheet sets for our bed every January. We’d get one cotton set and one flannel set. January was when major stores would have their white sales, so my mom would take advantage of this and refresh our bedrooms with new linens. It was fun picking out colors, but they were limited compared to the variety available today, and the thread count was only 180 if I recall. Not the best quality for sure.

Here I am decades later and I find myself following my mother’s pattern and picking up new bedding in January. This year, I found some pretty linens from California Design Den and they have lots of pleasing attributes.

Sleep Comfortably and Live Beautifully

The California Design Den sheet set comes with one smart fit sheet, one flat sheet, and two standard pillowcases. The sheets have a 400 thread count that are ethically and eco-consciously made from 100% pure natural long-staple cotton. What’s unique about these sheets is that they are independently certified OEKO-TEX – STANDARD 100. This means all their fabrics and dyes are safe and free of any harmful chemicals. There aren’t too many linens on the market that can boast this attribute.

The first thing I noticed was how much thicker and more durable these sheets are compared to your standard sheets, so they’re going to have a longer lifespan. They’re also immensely soft and have a slight satin sheen to them that enriches their look. The current sheet set I was using has a 280 thread count and I absolutely notice the difference sleeping on 400 thread count sheets. They are far more restful, comfortable, smoother, warmer, and all-around cozier than what I’m used to.

We’ve all had issues putting the fitted sheet on the bed. If we don’t get the correct corner, we have to rotate the sheet until we get it right. Well, this sheet set includes a smart fit sheet, which means its been cleverly designed to make life easier for us. The sheet tells us what size of mattress it fits and there is a tag on it that indicates which end belongs on the top and foot of the bed. I wish all brands would do this.

The 16-inch deep pocket corners are fortified with 12 mm elastic that fits snugly under the mattress without any fear of sliding off. This has been one of my frustrations because not all pockets are deep enough nor do they have sturdy elastic on the corners. The California Design Den sheets fit nicely and snugly in the corners of the mattress 9 – 18-inches deep, so it’s nice for buyers not to have to deal with this issue anymore.

The sheet sets are stitched by hand and performance tested before they are shipped out. They come in a variety of solids and prints to fit any bedroom decor. They are also available in Twin, Twin XL, Full, King, and Cal King sizes. They are fade-resistant so they won’t fade with regular washing. I washed my set on a regular wash cycle and put them in the dryer for 30 minutes to dry. They came out super soft and gracefully supple.

Update: after using these sheets for 4 – 5 months, they started to tear in the corners and along the edges. I had to throw them out and use a better brand.
