Welcoming January with Cariloha

Be Realistic

A lot of our resolutions fail because we put unrealistic lofty demands on ourselves. Be aware of your current fitness level and adjust your goals so they are attainable in small increments. Do something you enjoy or have a real desire to learn. Don’t start a bodybuilding program just because your friends are – when all you really want to do or learn Pilates. You’ll fail, feel depressed, and start beating yourself up when it wasn’t in your best interest to begin with. Go with your own flow.

You do not have to join an expensive gym or bust your butt in an exercise class. Walking is one of the best cardiovascular and pulmonary exercises you can begin with. Walking also improves your balance, lubricates your joints, improves digestion, boosts your mood and you’ll get to soak in all that fresh air. Do a few gentle stretches and walk around your block a few times. Start off slow and eventually amp of your pace, but not to the point where you are out of breath. Then enjoy a few minutes of a slow walk cool down. Walking is a favorite exercise among stay at home mom, students, and seniors and you can do it anywhere, anytime.
