Crochet The Complete Step-By-Step Guide
I’ve been crocheting ever since I was a little kid, and have developed a deep love and passion for it. My mother had a large yarn store when I was growing up, so I learned this skill very early on in life and I’ve never looked back. It’s one of my favorite handmade crafts to do and I always have several projects on the go all the time.
Back then they had lots of crochet magazines for those who already knew the craft, and I subscribed to several of them. But, there was no real specific book on learning the how-tos and the ins and outs of crocheting. Today though with a resurged interest in learning how to crocheting, great tutorial books like the Crochet The Complete Step-By-Step Guide have been created. I wish I had this book back when I was learning to crochet, it would have helped significantly.

The Complete Step-by-Step Guide
Crochet The Complete Step-By-Step Guide offers tips, techniques, and colorful visual tutorials that will benefit both seasoned and newbie crocheters. As a visual learner, I find illustrations very helpful and every pattern featured offers clear pictorial guidance that you can follow along. Included are over 100 fun projects from home decor to toys to apparel to novelty gift items for crocheters of all skill levels.
The book opens up with a few crochet know-how tips and lots of beneficial advice. A note about yarn, hooks, and other equipment, label reading, yarn weight, creating baby toys, choosing colors, as well as extending and improving our current skills are covered.
I love the way they have the stitch tutorials are set up. You learn a few stitches and then create a project or two using only these stitches. They start you off with some basic stitches – chain stitch, slip stitch, and visual tutorials on how to hold your hook and how to fasten off. Then you work your way up to half double crochet, double crochet, and treble crochet and other specialty stitches like beaded crochet, edgings, circular crochet, medallions, openwork, filet stitch, lace, and many more while creating new and exciting projects.
Important information on the Following a Crochet Pattern section is worth reading. Making sure your gauge is correct will ensure your project turns out the right size. This means using the correct yarn and adjusting your hook to create the right gauge. You’re also shown basic stitches in symbols and abbreviations. Using symbols is my preferred way of crocheting. Once you get used to them, you’ll find it goes so much faster.
When you see a project you’d like to create, you’re immediately shown the difficulty level, how big the finished project will be, the yarn – color and amount – hook size, gauge, special abbreviations and notions needed. From this information, you can discern if you are ready to create this item.
I found this book so delightful. It’s filled with so many patterns that doable for all skill levels. Some of them you can whip up in a few minutes, like the coasters shown above. They’re fun and easy to make, and you can use up odds and ends yarn leftovers. Plus, they make great gifts and stocking stuffers.
Crochet The Complete Step-By-Step Guide is so detailed and has taken all guesswork out. They want to ensure your project turns out the first time. This book offers a lot of fresh ideas and pushes you to try something out of your comfort and skill level. It’s a great book for any crafter and I’m glad it’s part of my craft book collection.
