Denby Cast Iron Griddle
With the kids already revving up to go back to school, college, or university, they are busy getting their supplies ready. Stores are bursting with books, paper, pens, and pencils, but if your child is off to university other provisions need to be considered. Furniture, appliances, and kitchenware will be a necessity to make their year away from home comfortable.
When choosing appliances and kitchen accessories you want the item to be multifunctional. Denby offers several products that would fit perfectly in a dorm or student’s apartment. Looking through their fabulous selection, I found their Cast Iron Griddle and thought about all the uses it could provide.
You might be surprised to know that cast iron is actually an eco-friendly material. Denby’s cast iron products have much thinner walls. This allows the pan to heat up faster and retain the heat making this product very energy efficient. The griddle still weighs in at just over 6 lbs. Another attribute is that it cooks evenly and consistently with no hot spots.
The Cast Iron Griddle is ergonomically designed with its lighter cast iron and precisely placed easy to hold handles and knobs. It has a cast iron enamel finish and can be used on the stovetop, or any heat source and in the oven up to 250 degrees. You cannot use this griddle in the microwave. It comes in several great colors, I chose the cherry red so it matches my kitchen.
This griddle was put to use immediately. The handles will get hot during cooking so you will need to wear oven gloves. With this griddle, you have the option of using it dry or with cooking oil.
I really appreciated how quickly it heated up. I only used a medium to low heat for all the foods I cooked and this seemed to work really well. We had fun whipping up several dishes to see how this griddle fared. It made perfect grilled cheese sandwiches, pancakes, veggie stir fry, caramelized onions, hash browns, and any kind of meat. If you cook eggs you will need to use a veggie oil first and then add your eggs. If your heat is too high, your moisture will evaporate so it’s best to use a med-low heat. It cooked evenly and quickly and I used a spatula to flip the food. It’s easy to clean. You have to wait for it to cool down and then it washes up nicely with soap and water.
It’s quite user-friendly and incredibly versatile. Personally, I think it would be an ideal and essential kitchen accessory for any home, including a student’s dorm. I really like it and use it almost daily.
