I actually dig exercise, but this has not always been the case. I found I got bored with the same old routines, same old exercises, and using the same old equipment. I just couldn’t bear hearing the same old motivational comments from the fitness instructors on the DVDs. I had to switch it up and add variety to my workouts. Exercise has changed so much over the decades, push-ups and jumping jacks are old school and let’s face it, unimaginative!
To get the hottest and up to date exercise DVD’s to hit the market, I’ve turned to Gaiam Canada. They offer copious DVDs for a multitude of different exercises and health and wellness. They also provide us with proper equipment so our workouts are safe and enjoyable. I recently got to try out a few of their products and it was so refreshing to do something different.
Jillian Michaels is no pushover, she means business, and so does her DVD. I have never tried one of Jillian’s DVD’s before and I may have shied away from her after seeing her on TV. Her newest release is called One Week Shred which offers two 30 minute workouts plus an online meal plan. These workouts are intense because they will get you to your ultimate fitness goal. You can lose up to 7 lbs in 7 days if you do her morning and evening workouts. Aside from Jillian, there are two other people in the routine to follow, one does the intense exercises and the other the modified exercises. I personally did the modified version and I felt it the day after. With continued use, it does get easier and more pleasant to do. Hard workouts produce results!
I honestly have never done yoga before. I heard a lot of positive comments about yoga but never ventured out to get a DVD and try it out. Thanks to Gaiam, I had the opportunity to try out Calorie Killer Yoga by Colleen Saidman. There are 5 workouts on this DVD: Constant Cardio, Energy & Endurance, Sustained Burn, Rise & Shine, and Balance & Restore. This DVD is not for beginners like me but that doesn’t mean we can’t give it the good ole college try. I’m not familiar with the yoga poses or what they are called, but if you watch the DVD a few times as I did, all you have to do is just follow the movements. Like any new DVD, you have to learn the moves or steps. I really enjoyed the lovely stretches and poses. Even though it’s a peaceful exercise, yoga will pull muscles you didn’t know you had.
Doing yoga requires using a special nonslip mat, without it, you could possibly injure yourself. Gaiam carries some gorgeous colored durable yoga mats. I received a 3mm two-toned reversible purple yoga mat, but they come is a multitude of colors, prints and thickness. It has a textured surface that feels real groovy and comfortable on your feet. Using one of these non-slip mats does indeed make a huge difference in your workout. Being about to restfully maintain a pose is the idea in yoga, and their mats make it happen.
When you’re done, you roll up the mat and attach the yoga sling. It’s a thick and sturdy nylon strap with metal D-ring sliders that you put the loops over each of the mat and cinch pull. It offers a dual function, it keeps the mat in place and acts as a carry strap; you simply sling it over your shoulder and off you go. Gaiam makes it so easy and fun to work out. Check them out!!
