Marvel Avengers: Infinity War Hero Vision Iron Man AR Mask
Ask any little kid what they want to be when they grow up and they’ll eagerly tell you they want to be a superhero. Why? Because they have special powers, unique abilities, enormous strength, and some pretty cool gear. In the old days, kids would don a cape made from a towel or old fabric, a mask cut out of Felt or paper to hide their identity and perhaps a shield or sword to protect themselves and the world. Role-play has changed so much since then.
Today, toys are far more technical and advanced and Hasbro is a leader in creating the ultimate in interactive game wear. They recently partnered with the Avengers and created a Superhero device that kids of all ages will covet. Introducing the Marvel Avengers Infinity War Hero Vision Iron Man AR (Augmented Reality) Mask! It takes digital roleplaying to a whole new level for the next generation of Hasbro kids.
First, I have to mention that the Infinity War Hero Vision Iron Man Mask has the coolest packaging. Each side is filled with vibrant graphics explaining how the mask works along with some sneak peek scenes from various levels.
The Infinity mask was inspired by the infamous Iron Man movies. It comes with both physical and digital components — AR goggles, gauntlet, 3 AR markers, Infinity Stone, and instructions. Plus, there is the Hero Vision app that you will need to upload on your phone. There are other infinity stones from various Avenger characters that you could use in the game as well. This mask will allow kids the cool experience of being able to battle just like their superhero, Iron Man. It’s an exciting game that’s a blast to play.
To activate this mask, a few steps will have to be implemented first. Please note, if you need to wear glasses, the goggles will not fit properly. But, you can focus the goggles to adjust to your vision.
The very first step is to download the free Hero Vision Iron Man AR Experience app from the Google App Store. In order to activate the mask, you must have to correct size Smartphone or Android device that fits in the goggles. There is an outline on the bottom of the box that you can gauge your device size in — it must fit within these parameters. They also have a list of the devices that work, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 7 Plus, iPad, iPad mini, Samsung Galaxy Note and Samsung S 6. I have an iPhone 6 Plus and it fits perfectly.
A few family members have the iPhone X and it’s not compatible. You would think they would update this new game to be compatible with new technology. Anyway, once the app is installed, open it and follow the onscreen setup instructions. Some steps will require you to read the instructions first before applying them. This is important, read first or you cannot move on to the game.
Next step is to place your AR markers on your floor or table. They need to be around 2 meters or 6 feet from the user and can be adjusted to the needs and size of your space. Then put the gauntlet on your hand but make sure the AR markers on the glove face your phone. The red gauntlet is plastic and kinda one size fits all. There’s an elastic band that just stretches to fit your hand. It’s comfortable and fits both adults and kids.
Now you scan the AR markers and the infinity stone or stones. There is room for only two infinity stones on the glove. The app will confirm that they are scanned and you’re ready to move onto the next step.
Now that you’re set-up, you install the phone inside the goggles. There is a spring-loaded clamp that adjusts to the size of your phone and holds it in place. You can also adjust the eyepiece to suit your vision. There are some knobs on the top that adjust the distance and a dial that adjusts the width between your eyes. The rubber-like piece around the edge is quite comfortable and snug to wear around your eyes, there’s no friction or slipping.
Now snap the goggles inside the mask and adjust the strap at the back to fit your noggin! To tighten or loosen just turn the dial either way. We found it a little heavy for some of the kids. The weight of the phone in the goggles pressed down on the cheekbones and they had to support the mask with their free hand. They didn’t really care, they loved playing the role of Iron Man.
So are you ready to play? Go!! There are ten levels to battle through. We haven’t made it past level 3 – yet, but that will not stop us from trying. We had a blast! The graphics and sound effects are so amazing. You feel like you are in the midst of your enemies and you’re eager to destroy them. The main enemy is the Evil Thanos and he’ll send his alien creatures and drones to take you down. You have to keep alert, be ready to defend yourself, and fight back.
When you face off one of Thanos’ minions, you first need to get a visual lock and then raise the gauntlet in front of the target and it will shoot lasers at them and destroy them instantly. Getting hit is inevitable, so you’ll need to take time to repair your armor. The game will let you know when this is necessary with a voice prompt. Just raise your hand to your face to initiate the repairs.
This game is very interactive and it gets kids up and moving around. Hasbro has taken precautions so kids don’t get disoriented from wearing the headset. Even though the games are short, you’ll only be allowed to play two games before the app will require you to remove the helmet completely before continuing. When you resume your game, you carry on where you left off. You will be able to unlock new levels and have the option to use other infinity stones to unlock new power-ups to use in the app which will get you bigger advantages. It’s so cool!
We found that HERO VISION appeals to a slightly older kid who is starting to get into apps and technology and may have started to grow out of the traditional role-play items, but still loves the storytelling and characters like IRON MAN and pretending to be them. Ages 8 years & up/Approx. Retail Price: $49.99
