Mediterra Nutritional Bars

Walk down any snack aisle in a grocery store, and you’re bombarded with a superabundance of choices. You name it, and a snack is available in every appealing flavor, shape, and color. Most of these options are not healthy or have even a glimmer of nourishment. Snacks have their place, but for me, they need to have nutritional value, so that pretty much rules out most of the snack aisle.

I was recently introduced to a company that makes nutritional bars that will satisfy every craving, and leave you wanting more. Enter Mediterra! Their bars are fashioned after a Mediterranean diet which is rich in grains, fruits, vegetables, savory herbs, legumes, nuts, yogurt, and olive oil. They’ve created six flavors that are not only delicious, they’re also gluten-free, wholesome and loaded with healthy NON-GMO ingredients.

Mediterra Bar Flavors

My family is really big on snack bars, so I was really pleased to share the Mediterra bars with them. They offer four sweet bars and two savory bars, and they’re all bursting with flavor. All the bars are vegan with the exception of the Yogurt & Oat Bars.

I personally loved the savory bars, Black Olive & Walnuts, and Sundried Tomato & Basil. They are a big hit with me and a few other family members. They’re a crispy bar packed with ample chunks of tomato, herbs, olives, seeds, and nuts. Open the wrapper and all the rich ingredients are exposed, they’re not hidden under a thick layer of dough or sugary stuff. Although the savory bars have some brown rice sugar added, it’s balanced with the right amount of sea salt and capers. The bars look hard, but they’re actually quite supple, moist, and chewy. The Sundried Tomato & Basil tastes like a pizza in a bar. It’s my ultimate favorite.

If you have a sweet tooth then you will not be disappointed. The four flavors Mediterra offers are two Yogurt & Oat Bar with either Cherry & Pistachio, or Apricot & Pistachio, and two Sesame Energy Bar with either Pistachio & Honey or Orange & Honey flavors. I found the sesame bars over sweet, but everyone else loved them. The sesame bars are supple, quite sticky, and have tiny bits of fruit and nuts. The yogurt bars are firmer and coated with a delicate layer of yogurt, and contain generous amounts of figs, raisins, pistachios, and oats.

The sweet bars are ideal for a breakfast replacement if you’re in a hurry, although I could eat the savory bars any time of the day. All the bars are perfect for mid-afternoon lulls when you need a pick-me-up snack. They provide balanced nutrition that will give you enough energy to finish the day. Mediterra bars do contain nuts, so you’ll need to read the labels carefully if you have someone in your family with diet restrictions.

The bars come in individual packages, so you can toss them in your backpack, gym back, purse, pocket, or put a few in your vehicle. They definitely live up to their Mediterranean heritage. They’re loaded with divine flavors and have no fillers, just true wholesome fiber, nutrients, and vitamins. I think they did a great job of formulating the perfect ingredient combinations that deliver the biggest flavor impact.

If you’re looking for a healthier alternative to sugary snacks and bars, then I highly recommend the Mediterra bars. You’ll love them. They’re available at Real Canadian Superstores, Health food stores, and some independent grocers. Look for them next time your shopping for snack foods.
