Oceanstar 3-Piece Bamboo Cutting Board Set

Bamboo is one of the earth’s most sustainable resources. Many companies are jumping on the bandwagon and finding ways to incorporate this eco-friendly product into their wares. Bamboo is deemed a grass and grows quite rapidly and can be harvested every four years. You don’t have to replant Bamboo, it grows back on its own. Bamboo is also inherently anti-microbial, so it is seldom infected by pathogens or eaten by pests. There is no need to use chemical fertilizers or pesticides to grow bamboo. These attributes make Bamboo a very versatile and user-friendly resource.

Oceanstar designs, manufactures and distributes high-quality wooden products for our homes. Although bamboo is not a wood, they have included this attractive hardy grass as a material to create a few items perfect for our homes.

Being a vegan, I am constantly chopping vegetables for nearly every meal. I have at least two or three cutting boards going at the same time. Oceanstar carries a beautiful three-piece set of cutting boards made from bamboo that I was thrilled to try out.

Everyone has cutting boards made from either glass, tile, marble, plastic or wood. We have to be careful about our choice of cutting boards because some of them are harder to clean leaving behind harmful bacteria. I was reading about a test done to determine which cutting boards are the safest to use in the kitchen. Plastic came in last, then marble, then glass and finally wooden cutting boards won. I had glass and plastic and have thrown them out after reading this report.

If you have wooden cutting boards you will know how heavy they are. The first thing I noticed was that the bamboo cutting boards are extremely lightweight regardless of their size. Even plastic and glass can be quite heavy. What caught my attention was how very beautiful bamboo is; I love all the different rich hues. It’s very durable, doesn’t warp, it’s antibacterial, anti-fungal, non-porous, resistant to harboring odors and moisture absorption and dries faster than other woods. Bamboo is self-healing for shallow knife cuts compared to other cutting board surfaces. It’s more resilient than other products and also easy to maintain. Knowing this now confirms that bamboo is a natural choice for any kitchen, especially a green kitchen.

I could go on about the wonderful characteristics of bamboo. I’ve been using them for just over a month now and they still look like new. I love beets so I was a little hesitant to use these beautiful boards in case they stained, but I was not disappointed. I wash these cutting boards by hand with hot sudsy dish liquid and all stains have come off. They are not a craze or fad, bamboo is here to stay! These bamboo cutting boards are absolute winners!
