Origami is one of the prettiest and most delicate arts and crafts I’ve seen. I’m always in awe at the beautiful things people are able to create with ingenuity, agility and sculpting techniques. The ability to fold and manipulate paper into shapes, forms, characters and articles is astounding. You can transform a single sheet of origami paper using numerous techniques, into elegant and breathtaking art. If you are interested in learning this art form, Tuttle Publishing is the place to go. They carry a lovely collection of origami books, paper and kits. Here are two of their newest releases.

The Japanese Paper Flower book will walk you through the steps to make graceful blooms, blossoms and buds. The book is divided into three sections, Part I – The Paper Flower Basics, Part II – The Paper Flowers and Part III – Making Arrangements and Accessories. The beginning of the book gives you a preview of all the stunning florals you can create within these pages.

Part I describes everything you’ll need to create the projects it the book. These include materials like paper, paper-covered wire, bead, pearls and floral tape. Tools include scissors, tweezers, tracing stylus, glue and other useful gadgets. It also shares the steps to prepare the parts needed to make a flower from making a template to cutting to curling to making ridged petals to stacking to making the stamen, leaves and the sepal. Each step is explained with instructions and photo illustrations.

Part II takes you right into creating beautiful flowers. There are 31 different flowers and some of these include Lily of the valley, Poppy, Carnation, Peony, Rosebud, Pom-pom Chrysanthemum, and Cherry blossoms. Each flower tells you what materials you’ll need included templates, which can be found at the back of the book. Every step is detailed with instructions and illustrations so you can follow along easily. Part III allows you to put your new-found skills to work by creating impressive wreaths, arrangments, corsages and other accessories.
