Kids Quiet Time Reading

From sun up to sundown, kids buzz around the house in full throttle making noise and messes with you in tow picking up and shushing them along the way. Kids need to burn off energy and there are lots of beneficial outdoor activities to accomplish this. But, they also need some quiet time where they can intentionally settle down, unwind, pick up a book, and read. By doing this consistently every day, kids will develop some healthy habits and an appreciation for reading.

The key is to have a variety of interesting books available in your home library. Some parents like to visit their local library, while others have lots of books at home that they recirculate throughout the year. I have a large kid’s library in my home that I add to quite often. I also purge books and give them to friends or donate them to various charities. But, adding new reading material makes reading interesting and enjoyable. Here are a few books I just added to my library.

Up the Moutain Path

Up the Moutain Path

Up the Mountain Path is an enchanting story about Mrs. Badger and her weekly walk up to the mountain peak called Sugarloaf Peak. The third page of the book opens up to a bird’s eye view map of the forest area where you can see all the paths that are enjoyed by Mrs. Badger and other woodland creatures. Along the way on her walk, Mrs. Badger greets her friends, picks delicious mushrooms, and helps out a few friends.

She stops for a snack and meets a curious kitten Lulu who not only shares Mrs. Bager’s snack, she also wants to go up to the mountain with her. Lulu thinks she is too small but follows anyway. Along the way, Lulu asks an enormous amount of questions and Mrs. Badger patiently teaches Lulu a lot of valuable lessons. They help a baby bird back to her nest, she learns to listen to your heart, enjoys the scenery, and appreciates her surroundings. It’s such a heartwarming story with beautiful illustrations, the kids really loved it.

Little Robot Alone

Little Robot Alone

Little Robot Alone is about just that, a little robot who lives by himself and is lonely. He lives in a nice house with beautiful surroundings, but he is lonely. One night he had an interesting dream and woke up with an idea. He does his morning routine and then quickly runs into his workshop to put his new idea to work.

Oily rags, pegs, glue, screws, and a handy wrench help little robot to create something smooth and shiny. But when he pressed the start button, nothing happened. Back to the drawing board! But with persistence, he creates an adorable… Nope, not telling you. You’ll have to get the book to see the ending. We love this book. The storyline is endearing, the illustrations are colorful and the ending is a heartwarming cure for loneliness.

Cat Wishes

Cat Wishes

Cat Wishes is about a hungry cat. He spies a mouse, a mole, and a bat. The cat hears rustling in the bushes and manages to catch a snake. But, the snake tells the cat that if you spare my life, I’ll grant you three wishes. Hmm, the cat did not believe in wishes coming true, but despite his skepticism, things turned out in his favor. The cat wished for food, shelter, and a friend. Interestingly, a little girl met the same snake and he gave her three wishes as well. Her third wish was to have a friend as well, so the cat leaped into her arms. The illustrations look like watercolor paintings and speak volumes.
