Who doesn’t love a fairy tale that allows your imagination to visualize and live in pretend worlds and become a character in the very story you’re reading. What a beautiful place for a child to be. We’re huge storybook readers and we are always looking for new books to be inspired and enraptured by.
Raincoast Books offers us a wide range of delightful and fascinating children’s books from vintage to new and refreshing stories. We had the pleasure of reading three of their entrancing and enchanting books.
The Fairy Tale Comics book is a medley of 17 stories, some of them are our favorite classic fairy tales we grew up with and others are new and exciting stories we are being introduced to. It’s uniquely illustrated in a comic book format. Some kids don’t like to read books but they seem to gravitate to comics and actually enjoy what they are reading. Some of the recognized stories offered in this book are Hansel & Gretel, Rapunzel, Goldilocks & the Three Bears, Snow White, and Puss in Boots. New to us are whimsical and engaging stories like The Boy Who Drew Cats, Baba Yaga, Rabbit Will Not Help, and several more. All the stories were beautifully depicted with cute characters and cheerful graphics. We love this book.
The Snatchabook is a warm and adorable story about a book thief. In every house, in every bed, a bedtime book was being read, that is until one night their storybooks started disappearing, vanishing without a trace. It all started with Eliza Brown at Number Three, her book disappeared while she was reading it. Next was the owl family and so on, and so on until all the books were gone. No one knows who took them or where they have gone. Somebody has to do something to get the books back, so Eliza decides enough is enough. The book has lovely images and really sweet and appealing characters that naturally drawn you in and soften your heart. The ending is… well I’m not going to spoil it for you.
The Bear Song is another book that will have your kids studying every page. It’s such a delightful story about a cub who is supposed to be hibernating for the winter, but Little Bear gets caught up chasing a honey bee. Papa Bear instinctively knows something isn’t right and wakes up only to find Little Bear gone. The story is about the playfulness of Little Bear chasing the bee everywhere and Papa Bear frantically trying to find him. The book is really large and will engulf a child’s lap. It’s loaded with colorful illustrations that will open up your imagination to a whole new world.
All of the books are hard covered and built to withstand hundreds and hundreds of storytime readings. We loved all the stories, they reflect the true essence of what an imagination let loose can produce.
