Shamrock Shake Green Smoothie
Spring has sprung. The robins are back, plants are budding, the weather is so much warmer. St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and things are turning green rather quickly. In celebration of this magically green day, Shamrock Shakes are very popular with their whipped cream, maraschino cherries, and rich ice cream. These are ingredients that taste great but do not promote health. I was inspired to create a healthier version of this popular shake with some ingredients you might not have at home, like spirulina. But, when you read about its benefits, you’ll feel encouraged to use it daily.
I’m a huge fan of smoothies and I make one pretty much every day. With a few nutritious ingredients, you can whip up a yummy Shamrock Shake in a few seconds.
Shamrock Shake Green Smoothie
- 1 cup spinach (organic)
- 2 bananas (ripe and frozen)
- 1/2 avocado
- 1 cup almond milk (organic, non GMO)
- 1 tbsp maple syrup (organic)
- 1 tsp spirulina
- 2 drops peppermint oil (food grade, organic)
-
Add all your ingredients in a blender. Blend on high for 30 – 60 seconds. Serve!
Spirulina is a natural algae that is immensely high in protein and many other nutrients. It’s an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and it helps with so many health conditions from anemia to high cholesterol to high blood pressure. Avocados contain more potassium than banana’s, are loaded in fiber, abundant in nutrients, are good for your heart, and lower cholesterol. Spinach is low in fat, high in fiber and contains numerous vitamins and minerals our bodies need to stay healthy including B6, carotenoids, folate, potassium, iron, calcium, magnesium, copper and many more.Â
My family loves this smoothie, it’s delicious, easy to make, and gives you lots of energy. I like to amp it up and alter the greens for variety and a balanced diet.
