Chronicle Books for Kids

Getting and motivating kids to read can be a challenge. Granted school subject matter can be boring, but our home library can be a portal to an unbelievably magical world. My shelves are filled with interesting books that capture the interest and imagination of our young readers. If the kiddos like a story they will read it over and over until they know it by heart. So, I’m always on the prowl for new books, and I found three charming titles I’d love to share with you.

The Bear and the Piano

The Bear and the Piano is a delightful little story about a cub who finds a thing in the forest. He touched it, and it made a horrible noise, but after days, months, and years, he grew to love it. As a big grizzly now, he appreciated the melodic sounds and he learned to play music for his friends. A father and daughter wandering through the forest told the bear the thing was a piano and that he could play in big cities and share his talent. The bear was torn about leaving his friends, but he longed to explore and improve his piano playing. The book goes on to share his experience in the big city, his success, and his sadness. We loved the colorful illustrations and the heartfelt storyline.

The Truth About My Unbelievable Summer

The Truth About My Unbelievable Summer is a book about a little boy sharing his awesome summer experiences with his teacher. What started out as a day on the beach, turned into a worldwide search for a treasure map that was stolen from him by a bird. No way! The book is filled with magical coincidences, remarkable places, and unimaginable situations. There are lots of bright images that will mesmerize all who read this story. We enjoyed reading about this globe-trekking adventure that took the boy to Egypt, India, China, and other fascinating places, and it was all true. Wink!

A Beetle Is Shy

I don’t know what it is about kids and bugs. Most kids don’t seem to be afraid of these creepy critters. A Beetle Is Shy is about the world of beetles, all kinds of beetles. The book starts off with an egg being hatched and progresses from the larva to a cocoon until it’s a developed beetle. It talks about their colors, their size, what they eat, and how helpful they are. The images are bold, colorful and fun for kids to study.

If you’re looking for some good summer reading or want to extend your library, then perhaps these books will spark your interest.
