Sweet Debbie’s Organic Treats Recipes

Desserts are by far the most favorite meal or snack in our home. No one has ever turned down a cookie or cupcake, it’s quite the opposite, they just can’t get enough. This doesn’t mean that I offer my family unhealthy treats that are loaded with high fructose corn syrup, trans fats, refined flour, MSG, artificial colors and unpronounceable chemicals. I have several family members who are vegan, have allergies, certain food sensitivities, and two who are diabetic, so I usually make homemade desserts. Finding recipes and ingredient alternatives can be a challenge unless you happen to stumble upon an awesome cookbook like I did.

Sweet Debbie’s Organic Treats Allergy-Free & Vegan Recipes is one of the nicest and easiest recipe books I’ve used. Debbie Adler, the creator and owner of Sweet Debbie’s Organic Cupcakes, was inspired to create this luscious cookbook because her son was born with multiple food allergies. With lots of experimentation, she was able to create desserts so all could indulge. All 50 of her recipes are gluten, egg, dairy, soy, sugar, and nut free. Debbie has taken all the worry and guesswork out for us. Just follow the recipes and enjoy. And enjoy we have!!

Chapter 1: Free Food Fully Loaded

First, I want to say that this cookbook is overloaded with clear, vibrant and tempting photos. I love seeing the end product instead of trying to envision it. Often the photo is the deciding factor whether I’m going to make the recipe or not.

Chapter 1 & 2 sets you up for success. In chapter one, Debbie offers a synopsis of all the healthy alternative ingredients you will need to make her decadent desserts. All these ingredients were chosen for their high nutritional and baking performance value. Chapter two is filled with ‘how to techniques’ so baking is a breeze. For instance, it’s suggested that when measuring coconut nectar, you use an oiled measuring cup so it will pour out easily. This is a fabulous idea, I wish I thought of it! This chapter is brimming with so many tips and recipe ‘must haves’ and what you will need in your culinary toolkit.

Let the fun commence, the good news is you can make these recipes with a clear conscious. Beware though, your glazed eyes will get transfixed and mesmerized on the scrumptious recipes that are calling out to your sweet tooth, to your secret weaknesses. Resistance is futile! We bounced all over the book and wanted to make every single recipe, but we are huge cookie and muffin fans so we naturally resonated with these recipes first.

The Cosmic Chocolate Chip Cookies are truly out of this world. They are easy to make and filled with stress-free ingredients; they’re sweetened with coconut nectar. Coconut nectar is low glycemic, 100% raw vegan, fat-free, gluten-free, loaded with abundant minerals, 17 amino acids, Vit C, and has a rich creamy flavor.

I had a few of my little nieces over and we did some serious cookie and muffin making; they donned their aprons and the title Sous chefs. The recipe calls for chocolate chips, which you can either purchase, I bought organic chips, or you can make Debbie’s Dark Chocolate Chip recipe. If you’re good with a pastry bag, then you’ll enjoy this fabulous recipe. These cookies are really yummy, they’re full of flavor and not overly sweet. We really enjoyed these dainties with our tea.

We enjoyed making the Pumpkin Pie Muffin recipe too. If you like pumpkin pie, then this recipe is a must. Their heavenly scent permeated my home and gathered a crowd. The batter is a little thicker than other muffin recipes I’ve used, but they turned out just fine. I think the girls did a great job. We left some plain and others we decorated with organic cream cheese and a dash or two of cinnamon. They’re tasty and filled with a rich and creamy pumpkin flavor. You really can’t stop at one. Great for breakfast or a snack.

We like snacks that we can take on the go, so both the muffins and the cookies were ideal. We want our kids to take wholesome and safe treats to school with them, and this recipe book will not let you down. I can honestly say that this cookbook is filled with delicious nosh that will give both kids and adults energy instead of a sugar rush. They’re healthy snacks without sacrificing taste! I’m so delighted to have Sweet Debbie’s Organic Treats as part of my cookbook collection! I happen to think it would make an excellent Mother’s Day gift.
