The Tipsy Vegan Cookbook
When I first got the book “The Tipsy Vegan” I wasn’t sure what to expect. I thought perhaps alcoholic drinks with fruits and maybe some veggies. I was pleasantly surprised to see this book had a lot more to it than the name implies.
If your looking to add some zing to your meals then this book is for you. Here you can introduce your kitchen to some spirited ingredients in this lively and tasty cookbook. When beer, wine, vodka, bourbon, and other favorites team up with fresh fruits, veggies, and grains, you can have your drink and eat it, too!
Although I don’t usually add alcoholic beverages to my meals, I was intrigued to see how they could be merged with vegan ingredients.
There are 75 spirited recipes for soups, salads, breakfast, desserts and more. The first recipe I tried was the “Sweet and Sour Oktoberfest Cabbage” probably because it appealed to my German heritage. This dish called for 1/4 cup of light beer as it’s tipsy ingredient. There is some prep time first, washing and cutting the veggies and cabbage. It was actually really easy to make and took about one hour total. I thought the light beer gave it perhaps a slightly tangy/tarty taste which went well with the cabbage. You really would never know there was beer in the ingredients. Cabbage as rule does not smell that great when cooking but the aroma from this dish was really nice. When done it looked like a very deep purple stir fry. I put it on top of brown rice and must say it tasted great!! This recipe can be made without the beer and taste just as savory.
The next dish I tried was the “Party Monster Pancakes” which called for one tablespoon of amaretto. I love this recipe and the amaretto added just a hint of delicious sweet almond flavor. This recipe took no time at all to whip up. The pancakes fried quickly and were heavenly. I drizzled a little maple syrup, sliced some banana’s and they were eaten instantly. Delectable, enjoyable and yummy!!
Not all the recipes will appeal to everyone but it’s a nice change if you want to express your meals with verve, energy and a little sparkle. Perfect if you have a dinner party and want a unique theme for your meals. If you don’t like cooking with alcohol, no problem, leave out the alcohol. These recipes are equally as delicious! It’s a great addition to your culinary collection!
