Vogue Knitting, The Ultimate Stitch Dictionary
I’ve been knitting and crocheting since I was a kid. Growing up in a yarn store not only improved my skills at both crafts, but also deepened my passion for creating anything and everything out of yarn. Once I learned the basics of knitting, I wanted to learn more stitches and put them into practical use. Back then there were several knitting dictionaries for knitters to use as a reference. Today, however, there are far more advanced craft books with more unique stitches and more patterns that they could easily fill a library. The selection can be overwhelming. But, if you’re looking for that one book that has the most extensive collection of stitches yet, then the Vogue Knitting: The Ultimate Stitch Dictionary is a must-have!

With an exhaustive collection of 800 knitting patterns, including 100 brand new ones, they cover everything from your basic knit and purl to gorgeous motifs and geometric designs.

What Vogue has done is combined favorites from their Stitchionary series with 100 fresh, new and exciting stitches into one volume. In this creative compendium, you will find beautiful knit and purl textures, fascinating cables, and gorgeous and graceful lace patterns. Plus, you’ll discover copious colorwork techniques, decorative edgings, and a plethora of ideas for combining any of these options together.
Each stitch is shown in a full-color true swatch, not an illustration. Included with each swatch are a chart, stitch keys, and written instructions. If you are unfamiliar with working from a chart, start with an easy stitch and work your way to more challenging stitches. But once you get accustomed to working with charts, you will find it fun and enjoyable.
Always make a swatch first and check your gauge. You may need to alter your needle size to obtain the correct gauge. If you are unfamiliar with some of the abbreviations or techniques, flip to the back of the book where they are explained in the reference area.
As I peruse the Vogue Knitting Ultimate Stitch Dictionary, I’m mesmerized by all the beautiful stitches. From clever and creative cables to ornate colorwork to enchanting lace to unique edgings, this stunning reference book has it all. I love cables and lace patterns and found many stitches that I haven’t seen in other stitch guide books.
The ‘Butterflies’ lace stitch with a 24-row repeat is beautiful. You could create a lovely baby blanket with that stitch. The Butterfly Knot cable stitch would be awesome to include in a cardigan or afghan. The Butterfly Effect motif could be incorporated into a sweater, blanket, pillow, hat, scarves, and more. There are so many options and potential combinations to work into any pattern. I love this reference book. It will broaden your skills and encourage you to reach outside your knitting comfort zone. It’s perfect for newbies and skilled knitters to add to their craft book collection.
